Past Work and Current projects

Greg Godovitz was born in Scarborough, Ontario on March 20th, 1951. He spent his first 13 years planning to be an archeologist but when his older brother brought home the first Beatles album and the needle hit, he was hooked. From that moment on, music has been his passion.

Greg's early musical career began in 1964 and included stints in The Wanderers, The Pretty Ones (with future songwriting greats Ed and Brian Pilling), The Backdoor Blues Band, The Pyggs, Sherman and Peabody, The Mushroom Castle (with future songwriting legend Eddie Schwartz), but his recording career began when he hooked up once again with  Brian and Ed Pilling in Fludd which yielded a number of top ten Canadian hits including Cousin Mary, Turned 21, I Held Out, What An Animal and Brother And Me.

In 1974 Greg formed Goddo with drummer Marty Morin and guitarist Gino Scarpelli.  In 1975 drummer Doug Inglis came aboard and the group would quickly become one of Canada's biggest and most controversial rock trios.  Recording eleven albums during their career would produce many classic rock staples including Pretty Bad Boy, Under My Hat, Sweet Thing, So Walk On and O Carole (Kiss My Whip).

The group would tour Canada and the United States relentlessly, carving a path of rock and roll mayhem wherever they travelled.  The stories from his days on the road would later fuel Greg's autobiography, Travels With My Amp.

"I thought I was a rock and roll wildman until I read Greg's book!" ~ Eric Burdon (Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Legend)

Not content with just recording his music, Greg would eventually release a DVD entitled Up Close And Uncomfortable (2005) which featured three hours of story telling and songs recorded on acoustic guitar at Hugh's Room in Toronto.

Later, from the archives would come Goddo Live (2007), a DVD release featuring the 1979 performance and first ever CHUM / CITY TV simulcast.  The custom-tailored leopard print satin suit worn by Greg for this performance now hangs in the Toronto Hard Rock Cafe.

Greg next began writing short stories for a proposed second book to be entitled The Fartian Chronicles.  The first six stories written for this project would end up in the National Post and Toronto Sun.  The Fartian Chronicles is now near completion for a 2011 release.

In 1994 a short stint with The Carpet Frogs yielded the pop album Frog Curry and a stint in Toronto super group The Anger Brothers resulted in their self titled debut disc with Greg contributing new original material and producing.

In recent years Greg has been kept busy performing with the likes of Ronnie Hawkins, as well as producing his annual John Lennon tribute with artists such as Alannah Myles, Lawrence Gowan, Stephen Fearing and Murray McLauchlan.

From 2006-2008 Greg co-hosted and produced Rock Talk for Newstalk 1010 CFRB in Toronto.  During this time Greg interviewed the likes of Eric Burdon, Meat Loaf, Alice Cooper, Pattie Boyd Harrison, Steve Lukather, Roger McGuinn and countless other rock and roll legends.

In 2010 Greg continues to perform with Gino and Doug in Goddo and fans worldwide are looking forward to the television documentary In Goddo We Trust with multi-DVD release scheduled for spring 2011.

Having relocated to Calgary, Alberta in 2008 Greg spends his time performing live music with a number of local rock and blues artists including Paul Dean, Amos Garrett, Bill Dowey, Kelly Jay Fordham, recording music for television (Hollywood and Vines), teaching a songwriting course, and doing recording sessions as a musician and producer for Netty Mac, Devi Naryani, Kobra and the Lotus, and fifteen year-old future country superstar Dani-Lynn Trentham.

In 2011, to celebrate it's tenth anniversary, Greg's book, Travels With My Amp will be re-introduced in an extraordinary new format.

When asked if he has plans to retire any time in the near future Greg will only say, "Retire?  I haven't started yet!"

Greg turns 60 years young in 2011.
